Mom and Me Firehouse Cook-Off
|Mom and Me Firehouse Cook-Off|
In honor of Mother's Day, young chefs from across the area served up delicious and nutritious dishes.
On Saturday, May 11th, All Children's Hospital, Kohl's Cooks for Kids, Radio Disney, and the Lealman Fire District teamed up to host the Mom and Me Firehouse Cook-off. Young chefs were invited to grab their mom or another special female and submit their favorite healthy recipe. Eight teams competed for the top prizes of Top Chef, Heart Healthy, Mom's Choice, and Kid's Choice. A panel of judges including firefighters and nutrition experts were on hand to decide on the top recipes, which included: Vegetarian Lentil Chili by Chef Landon, Mexican Salmon Patties by Chef Jackson, Not So Sloppy, Sloppy Joes by Chef Aaliyah, and Pineapple Chicken Sliders by Chef Leandro.
The event was held at the Lealman Fire Station and it gave kids and families the chance to play fun games with Radio Disney, spray a real fire hose, decorate a Mother's Day gift, and spend some quality time cooking with Mom.
Since 2007, Kohl's has been supporting the efforts at All Children's to help families learn about nutrition and preparing healthy meals. Under the Kohl's grant, All Children's offers fun and interactive classes and events that encourage children to make healthy choices and teaches them basic culinary skills so they can assist the family in making tasty and healthy recipes.
